Welcome to Things You Should Know, the web presence of my YouTube channel “Things You Should Know“. I will keep posting videos from YouTube, maybe some of my meandering thoughts about this project, etc.
The idea of this channel is to learn. I firmly believe that learning is good for everyone (including me). Putting this together for you means I have to learn even more than I initially understood.
I will have videos on how various governmental entities work and how taxes, accounting, and other “business” things are supposed to function. In addition, I love history, arts, and hobbies. So yes, this entire idea is probably too large for one area, but I plan on trying to make it work.
About Me: I am a late-blooming progressive transgender woman who became a college graduate in her late thirties. Right out of school, I worked at a CPA firm doing taxes, then moved on for several years as a governmental auditor. My job as an auditor was to audit various governmental agencies, from State agencies, counties, cities, police, and fire departments down to the smallest mosquito district (yes, they have governmental districts for controlling mosquitos).
After my time there, I was a Senior Accounting Analyst for a large local government. Then I became an investigator for the underground economy for a state taxing agency and auditing defense contractors for the United States Department of Defense. Finally, I am currently working on auditing nonprofits that receive grant funding from our local county.
I have many hobbies (history is one of the biggest things I love, but not to be outdone, I love gaming as well).
I do not know everything, I constantly learn and find that I was wrong in the past. If you find I am wrong or have your opinion, I would love to hear it. Please feel free to contact me, I like debates, and I even sometimes like to hear that I was right :).
Will you be making a vidoe about the battle of Island mound, MO. On October 29, 1862?
To be honest I have never heard of it and it wasn’t on any of the more than seven different lists I used to compile the names of the battles for the series. After having read about it a few minutes ago, I wonder if people whether intentionally or unintentionally ignore it because it was the first fight with African Americans against Confederate forces. I suspect an inherent racial bias is why I haven’t heard of it and it wasn’t on any list I had.
I will compile it and do it. The videos are already done, uploaded and set up to go through 1862 and my videos will end in November of this year for the year (I need to take a hiatus until start of the year after that for holidays). I will make this my first battle in 2021 and I will mention how it never came up in any lists.
Thank you very m much for telling me about it. I would never have known if you hadn’t asked.
Hey, I wanted to reach out about your YT channel. I’ve been following your channel for a few years, and for my own channels, I use an app called TubeBuddy. Well, one of the features it has includes “Videolytics” which is a little sidebar next to videos that you are watching (can be any ones) and it shows all sorts of geek stats. One thing I noticed is that you don’t have a lot of tags for the videos. TubeBuddy can be used for free, and one great feature it has when publishing is recommended tags, commonly used search tags, and their popularity rankings. I use that for my own videos and find it to be really useful, so I figured I’d share this with you.
Keep up the good work. I enjoy the videos a lot. Even the name-butchered ones. =)
lol thank you. We will be taking a break in mid November until the first of the year. I was going to use that time to update the website and I will start adding tags. I will check out TubeBuddy.
I appreciate the suggestion ❤
